The Southern Berkshires

Nestled in the southwestern corner of Massachusetts, we are bordered by Connecticut to the south and New York to the west. We're easy to reach by car and are less than 2½ hours from both New York City and Boston. The Appalachian Trail winds through our scenic network of mountains, streams, lakes and forests. We're rich with history and surrounded by natural beauty. In addition we offer exciting recreation, unique shopping, exquisite art galleries and antiques, world-class performing arts, wonderful lodging and dining and a solid professional community and diversified small-business base.

  • Our Mission

To promote business prosperity and a healthy community by providing information, services and advocacy for its members.

  • Our History

We began as the Great Barrington Chamber of Commerce in the early 1900s. In the late 1920s, the state of Massachusetts renamed us the Southern Berkshire Chamber. Since then our merchant-focused organization has continually taken pride in the “Shop Local" movement and promoting the beauty and elegance of our unique region.
